MuteClipⓇ Double – Brick Wall Soundproofing

Wall Soundproofing

MuteClip Double – premium

Take a look at the system’s features and benefits.

MuteClip System

Our MuteClip Systems reduce the most noise in the smallest footprint.

NOISE REDUCTION

Hear the difference.

Play the video to hear the sound difference before and after installing this system. For best results try to match the volume of the unreduced audio to the volume of the noise you’re able to hear.

The noise in the video has been digitally reduced to give you an idea of the sorts of results you could expect. Unfortunately, this is not a perfect science and your personal results could vary due to myriad reasons. However, we have found our customers prefer to hear a decibel reduction rather than read it!

We stand for quality, and we are proud of it.

MuteClip® Double is our most popular option for projects that require a wall soundproofing solution that is both high performing and space-conscious, with only a 75mm loss of space.

It creates fewer points of contact with the partition wall using our MuteClip® which is composed of a dual-density rubber in a galvanised metal case, acting as a shock absorber.

The MuteClip® Channel affixes to the MuteClip®, and the new soundproof wall which is composed of two layers of dense Acoustic Plasterboard 15mm and Tecsound suspends away from the partition wall, ultimately resulting in an improved reduction of airborne noise, especially in the more problematic lower to middle-lower frequencies, as well as reducing immediate vibrations.

Soundproofing brick walls

Our MuteClip Double system is ideal for soundproofing brick walls. The key to soundproofing brick walls efficiently is creating a ‘de-coupled structure’.
In this system that means using our MuteClip and Channel to create a slimline frame that’s only connected to the existing brick wall with minimal points of contact. These points of contact are made up through the MuteClip these act like mini shock absorbers reducing the noise vibrations that can transfer through the wall.

Soundproofing walls against noisy neighbours.

Unfortunately, we’re no stranger to customers at their wit’s end with noisy neighbours. This intrusive sound can cause sleepless nights, stress or just be a nuisance. When it comes to soundproofing your walls against noisy neighbours a MuteClip System can reduce this noise to a level that you can forget about!

When you’re ready to put an end to disruptive noise and soundproof your walls against noisy neighbours iKoustic will be ready to offer all the support you need to build the system that works for you.

Advice and installation

Our team are always a phone call away ready to offer advice and support. Our systems can be installed by competent DIYers but if you would like to work with an installer we have relationships with installers up and down the UK that we can out you in touch with.

Wall Stud Center

The wall stud center is the distance between stud uprights. The typical stud upright is 600mm. If you are working directly on a brick wall we recommend using a 600mm spacing here also.

Wall Channel Center

The wall channel center is the distance between the horizontal MuteClip Channels. The typical channel center is 600mm. If you are working directly on a brick wall we recommend using a 600mm spacing here also.

  • If you have multiple adjacent surfaces or partitions to soundproof input them individually. Not as a total m2 input as this will affect the results.
  • If you have windows, fireplaces or other fixed structures we recommend booking a call with us before purchasing.

Questions

A soundproofing system isn’t rocket science but sometimes figuring out which one is right for you can be challenging. Check out our FAQs, get in touch via our live chat, or give us a call to speak to a human.

As our most commonly selected and popular system for its compact size to acoustic performance, something that does not encroach on living space when looking at wall soundproofing options for the home – MuteClip® Double provides the best of both worlds. It will help to reduce common household noise from conversations found in the background and at raised noise levels, light television usage and even reduction of light vibration from light switches and boiler rooms. With an existing single-course brick wall, we expect to see a reduction of approximately 8-15dB or 40-67% as a guide; this will not take into consideration Flanking Transmission or sounds coming from an unknown location.

Although there will be a reduction in the middle to high frequencies, the low frequencies may still be problematic once installed; this is because to mitigate these we would need to implement a stud framing as a way of achieving complete separation from the structure. A lot of low-frequency energy is generated with these activities and noise issues, so if these are the main concerns, checking flanking paths and looking to install our MuteClip® Stud Double would be the best option.

With all considerations given to flanking paths and ensuring that adjacent surfaces have been adequately soundproofed too, the MuteClip® Double would help surpass Part E Building Regulations for the airborne insulation requirements in both conversions and new builds, for internal dwellings and separate dwellings. We are able to create acoustic partition designs with new build constructions and add layers together to see estimated acoustic figures, and with conversions – an acoustic test can be carried out to survey the structure’s current acoustic performance..

Resilient Channels can, unfortunately, be fit incorrectly in many ways, and with each of these comes the failure of an acoustic system, or if there are requirements such as Approved Document E or any other special acoustic requirements, these will lead to failure and the replacement of them. MuteClip® and Channel require one fixing per clip, and the Channel snaps merely onto the row of clips which are spread out, all acoustic materials are then fitted onto the MuteClip® Channel. It also offers superior acoustic performance over resilient bar, focusing on low-frequency mitigation.

MuteClip® and Channel creates a 41mm void between Acoustic Plasterboard and the structural wall, so a 25mm or 30mm Acoustic Mineral Wool is best placed here to allow an air gap to operate. Do not attempt to compress a thicker size in, this will negatively impact the system by short-circuiting the acoustic clip and bar.

Hard surfaces that are butt up together tightly are susceptible to receiving vibration through Flanking Transmission, something that can affect the acoustic performance of any system dramatically. Always leave a gap to the adjacent walls, floor and ceiling to as close as you can get without touching and line with Acoustic Sealant.

Dot and dab is a soundproofing myth, its creation to improve acoustics is a little misunderstood, and most homeowners tell us that the sounds can be heard from everywhere – this is because there are small paths that allow the sound to flow freely. They should be removed where possible, or at least cut into to allow the new wall soundproofing system to come close to the actual structural wall.

Competent DIY’ers have installed our systems thousands of times if you have good DIY know-how and read our installation guide carefully you should have no problem.

If DIY isn’t for you we have a network of independent soundproofing installers up and down the country that we can recommend to you.
