We have made sure that our most cost-effective wall soundproofing solution takes care of your wallet and your walls. Find a whole host of wall soundproofing ideas here.
How much is cheap wall soundproofing?
Our cheapest wall soundproofing is only £34 per m2 as of 2023. This is our bronze wall soundproofing system and gives a brilliant 14dB sound reduction. This is far more than a single soundproofing panel.
Does soundproofing walls work?
Yes, soundproofing will reduce irritations like noisy neighbours and traffic noise. For soundproofing to work, you need the correct materials for your specific noise complaint and proper installation, (DIY install is possible too!).
Can you soundproof a wall from noisy neighbours?
We have the best solution for wall soundproofing against noisy neighbours. To soundproof against noisy neighbours you need good airborne insulation by using high mass materials and sealing any weak areas.
The best cheap wall soundproofing solutions
The best cheap wall soundproofing is the MuteClip Bronze system. To soundproof a wall cheaply, we need to ensure that you maximise on all the small gains. Using a cheap wall soundproofing solution doesn’t actually mean you’re using inferior products to soundproof your wall, at least not from iKoustic! What we offer is a single part of a larger system, so it’s top quality but with fewer components.
‘Cheap’ Bronze wall soundproofing systems
- Cheap wall soundproofing costs £34 per m2 as of 2023
- Cheaper wall soundproofing takes up 74mm of floor space
- Budget wall soundproofing can block up to 14dB of sound!
Our most cost effective wall soundproofing solution is the MuteClip isolation frame with a layer of acoustic plasterboard over it. The decoupling device, MuteClip, is the best soundproofing you can get for space used. It means that a single layer of board over it, is better than several soundproof boards screwed into the wall (and much cheaper!)
Each of these specialist materials are able to block sound in different ways; helping to protect you and your home from a wide spectrum of noises. This is important as your noisy neighbours are likely to be distrubing you with music, talking, TV and goodness knows what else! Each sound will have a different frequency at which it is strongest, such as bass in music or the higher frequencies of speech.
How does cheap wall soundproofing work?
Our cheaper wall soundproofing ticks all three major soundproofing science boxes; it adds mass, it decouples and uses absorption. You’ll find that most cheap wall soundproofing solutions encourage a single layer of acoustic plasterboard…while this is cheap, it’s also pointless.
I explain in full, in the video, how soundproofing works but if you haven’t got time to watch it, read on. This budget friendly wall system works by first controlling the drum effect in the cavity space. The drum effect is when sound reverberates inside an open space and causes amplification (not good!). Our cheap soundproofing system uses acoustic mineral wool to prevent this.
Secondly, the system uses a MuteClip. The MuteClip itself has a dual density silicone, which compresses slightly if you press it. This flex in the material means it can isolation vibrations that try to travel through the wall and resist them. Into the clip, we add a metal channel that will support the layer of plasterboard.
The plasterboard, which is not in direct contact with the original wall (very important), can reflect airborne soundwaves because it has a high mass. Together, all three elements control and block your noisy neighbours.
DIY Cheap Wall Soundproofing
To save cash, you can install your soundproofing yourself, if you want to. We provide detailed installation guides for all of our systems that walk you through how to soundproof a wall (even on the cheap!). The main consideration is that any good soundproofing panels are heavy as they need the all-important high mass materials to properly reflect unwanted noise, so keep that in mind.
I’m no expert DIY’er, but even I can follow the installation guides and use a drill happily. The tools required are nothing fancy and the steps are logical to follow. I would suggest getting an extra pair of hands to help as the materials are bulky. We provide installation support via our friendly technical team, so if you need some points give us a call!
The only stage of the project you might want soem help with is with the skim plaster after the wall is soundproofed. Luckily, these soundproofing wall panels are ready to skim after they have been installed, so it’s straight forwards. However, if you’d like someone to take care of the process from start to finish, we have a network of installers ready to help you! Tips for cheap wall soundproofing
To maximise on your tight wall soundproofing budget, it’s important to give yourself the best head start! Sound is able to travel in lots of different ways, but ultimatly it will look for the path of least resistance. This means that any holes in your wall are weak areas and will let in more noise than you might expect!
I think the best way to make the most of your cheaper wall soundproofing is to check the following list and make sure you’re ready to start:
- Are there any holes?
- Are there any cracks?
- Are there plug sockets?
- Have you got artwork hung up?
If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of the following then take action before you start your cheap wall soundproofing! Taking the extra time to fix these issues will transform the quality of your project, even on a budget.
For hairline cracks and small holes
For small fissures in your wall, get out the filler! Paste standard wall filler into any and every small hole/gap that you can see in the wall. Sand back the areas when it is set. For more detail, watch this video to learn how to repair small cracks and holes.
For larger cracks and holes in your walls
Larger cracks need a little more care. If you tap around the crack you may be able to hear it is a little hollow, even though it could be ontop of brick work. This means you have loose plaster and the crack goes quite deep. This is going to facilitate the movement of sound much more easily, so fix it properly! Follow this video to see how to properly fix your cracks in the wall before your soundproof!
For plug sockets
The best way to deal with your sockets and soundproofing is to move the electric. I know you might not be able to do this, but that is our very best advice; move the socket to another wall.
If this isn’t an option for you, then fear not as I have two more! The second is to use a wall-mounted socket box. These will reduce the size of the hole needed in your wall and improve the resistance to sound.
Space can mean that wall mounted sockets aren’t possible, too, so your final option is to install these socket insulation cups. This is a great way to reduce air leakage around sockets that cannot be moved in a soundproofing system. We have these available for both double and single socket boxes, so be sure to take an extra step while soundproofing your wall.
