Understanding our MuteMat® Range in 25 Seconds
When it comes to acoustics we understand that not every project is the same and we want to assist our customers by providing them with all the relevant information required to understand which of our noise control solutions are appropriate for their acoustic requirements.
We have produced 25 second summary videos which can help you understand more about our extensive MuteMat® range in a bitesize chunk. Whether you are soundproofing a timber or concrete floor or reducing impact or airborne sound we have a MuteMat® product that can reduce that noise transfer.
MuteMat® OSF
MuteMat® OSF (Overscreed Flat) is a thin, high performing floor acoustic underlay suitable for concrete structures to attenuate impact noise. Made out of recycled rubber, it is primarily designed to reduce impact sounds such as footfall, the dragging of chairs and general sounds of everyday living.
MuteMat® OSF comes in 3mm, 5mm and 10mm. Typically the thicker the acoustic underlay the higher performing it is going to be (with the MuteMat® OSF the performance of the acoustic solution would be calculated as the amount of impact sound reduced.)
You can lay a wide range of final floor finishes directly on top of MuteMat® OSF such as: Carpet, Vinyl, Tiles (some tiles may need a backer board), Laminate and Engineered Wood. Please call us with any queries on final floor finishes.
MuteMat® OSF is most commonly used to reduce impact sounds on concrete floors and within concrete structures, in buildings such as: High rise blocks, New builds, Hotels and multiple flats. Anywhere you need to achieve an impact reduction with in building, you can use MuteMat® OSF.
MuteMat® USP
MuteMat® USP (Underscreed Pimpled) is specialised for controlling excessive noise issues in concrete structures, made out of recycled rubber.
With MuteMat® USP being pimpled on one side it helps to separate the surface area contact and the less points of contact means a higher impact reduction (MuteMat® USP is primarily designed to reduce impact sounds).
We have two thicknesses available in our MuteMat® USP (acoustic under screed) 8mm and 17mm. These products are predominantly used as underscreed products, however we regularly use the MuteMat® USP 625-17 within our gym systems.
MuteMat® USP 625-17 would be placed underneath our acoustic gym flooring tiles as an extra layer of impact reduction. This works really well as it has a great deflection when dropping heavy weights, this paired with the robustness of our rubber obviously makes it perfect to use within our acoustic gym systems. These products are here to improve impact reduction and/or weight drop reduction.
MuteMat® 2
MuteMat® 2 is an acoustic underlay that offers both airborne and impact sound reduction when soundproofing a floor. It is a two-ply material that consists of one layer of Mass Loaded Vinyl (this is used to improve the airborne reduction by adding mass to a partition) and a 6mm closed cell foam (this offers a high rate of deflection to improve impact reduction).
Most used as acoustic insulation on timber floors, however it can also achieve some great results on concrete substrates by reducing impact sounds.
MuteMat® 2 is available in sheets with a thickness of 10mm, these must be installed in a brick formation and tape and seal any joints where the acoustic underlay butts up to one another.
You can lay carpet directly on top of MuteMat® 2. You can also install a wide range of other floor finishes such as vinyl tiles and engineered wood on top however depending on the thickness of these you may need to lay down a 6-9mm plywood layer down first. If you have any questions about your final floor finishes please contact iKoustic.
MuteMat® 2 are used regularly within projects that have building regulations / Part E requirements, where there is a change of use within the building such as turning a house into a HMO or into multiple flats. Anywhere there is a dividing floor between multiple spaces MuteMat® 2 is perfect for reducing both impact and airborne sounds.
MuteMat® 3
MuteMat® 3 (acoustic underlay) is a slimline acoustic flooring solution created to reduce both airborne and impact sounds when acoustically treating a floor. It is a three-ply material that consists of one layer of Mass Loaded Vinyl (this is used to improve the airborne reduction by adding mass to a partition), a 6mm closed cell foam (this offers a high rate of deflection to improve impact reduction) and finally an additional layer of MLV (Mass loaded Vinyl).
One of the main benefits of MuteMat® 3 is the varying layers of acoustic materials, as this really helps to break up the sound and improve the overall acoustic performance of the product. This is further enhanced by having alternating densities of MLV (Mass Loaded Vinyl).
This acoustic underlay is commonly used within timber structures as it offers both airborne and impact reduction. This acoustic matting can also be used on concrete structures to reduce impact sounds, however we would most likely recommend our MuteMat® 2 in this situation.
MuteMat® 3 is available in sheets with a thickness of around 12mm, these must be installed in a brick formation and tape and seal any joints where the acoustic underlay butts up to one another.
You can lay carpet directly on top of MuteMat® 3. You can also install a wide range of other floor finishes such as vinyl tiles and engineered wood on top however depending on the thickness of these you may need to lay down a 6-9mm plywood layer down first.
