NOISE REDUCTION

Hear the difference.

Play the video to hear the airborne sound difference before and after installing this system. For best results try to match the volume of the unreduced audio to the volume of the noise you’re able to hear.

The noise in the video has been digitally reduced to give you an idea of the sorts of results you could expect. Unfortunately, this is not a perfect science and your personal results could vary due to myriad reasons. However, we have found our customers prefer to hear a decibel reduction rather than read it!

We stand for quality, and we are proud of it.

MuteBoard® 2 is a ceiling soundproofing system, designed for installation in even the tightest of ceiling spaces, ones that are concerned with the loss of space or unable to accommodate suspended ceiling systems. MuteBoard® 2 will help to reduce ambient levels of noise as an acoustic barrier suitable for typical household or workplace noise issues.

This system also includes Acoustic Mineral Wool to be fit between the studs, at no less than 45kg per m3. It is all these two materials combined that make it ideal for ‘future-proofing’ against noise issues that could be found in the shared household or workplace,  or between existing rooms that suffer from intrusive background noise levels.

Advice and installation

Our team are always a phone call away ready to offer advice and support. Our systems can be installed by competent DIYers but if you would like to work with an installer we have relationships with installers up and down the UK that we can put you in touch with.

soundproofing ceiling insulation

Using Soundproofing ceiling insulation is a highly effective method for reducing sound transmission. We offer 60kg/m3 and 100kg/m3 essentially the heavier the soundproofing ceiling insulation the higher it performs.

  • Slimline soundproofing for ceilings.
  • System thickness from the bottom of the joist 18mm
  • Easy to install with a little background in DIY or joinery.
  • 42dB* for airborne (where a higher number is desirable)
  • Be sure to check for ‘Flanking Transmission’ in adjacent surfaces as these can affect acoustic performance.

MuteBoard® 2 Calculator

Use our handy calculator to see what soundproofing products your project will require. Don’t forget to unfold the ‘more info’ tab below to learn how to use this calculator.

Once you have your calculator results you can add all the products to your basket using the button below. You will have to manually input the results from the calculator. We know this is not ideal and we are looking into developing a solution for this.

Ceiling Stud Center

The ceiling joist center is the distance between ceiling joists measured from the center. The typical ceiling joist is 400mm. If you are working directly on a concrete ceiling we recommend using a 400mm spacing here also.

Ceiling Channel Center

The ceiling channel center is the distance between the MuteClip Channels. The typical channel center is 400mm. If you are working directly on a concrete ceiling we recommend using a 400mm spacing here also.

  • If you have multiple adjacent surfaces or partitions to soundproof input them individually. Not as a total m2 input as this will affect the results.
  • If you have windows, fireplaces or other fixed structures we recommend booking a call with us before purchasing.

Ceiling ‘Width’

For the calculator, the width of a ceiling is the measurement that runs perpendicular to your existing ceiling joists.

Ceiling Joist length

Joist length refers to the measurement that runs parallel with your existing ceiling joists.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

A soundproofing system isn’t rocket science but sometimes figuring out which one is right for you can be challenging. Check out our FAQs, get in touch via our live chat, or give us a call to speak to a human.

No, you will need to use a joist scanner to check where your joists are and then you can overboard the ceiling with the MuteBoard 2 to reduce the airborne sound transmission.

The MuteBoard 2 comes as a 1200mm x 1200mm board due to the weight. At 29kg per board you wouldn’t want this to be double the size!

MuteBoard 2 is the only MuteBoard system that can be used on a ceiling. The other boards used foam which can melt and drip when exposed to flames which is why we only use the MuteBoards 3 and 4 on walls.

Yes, you can cut this board with a knife or saw.

The MuteBoard 2 is made from 15mm acoustic plasterboard and the Tecsound sy70. Commonly contractors will use the MuteBoard on a larger project as the uplift in cost can be much lower than the uplift in installation time/cost.
