MuteClip® LP Ceiling Isolation Clips

Our MuteClip® isolation clip systems deliver the highest standard of soundproofing we offer. Isolation clips and channels are used to build a ‘de-coupled’ frame for wall and ceiling soundproofing. Plasterboard or other soundproofing materials can be installed onto this ‘de-coupled’ frame.

The MuteClip® is backed with dual-density silicone. This acts as a shock absorber surrounding the fixing and buffering the metal clip. The MuteClip Channel is then ‘clicked’ into the MuteClip® providing a slimline and ‘de-coupled’ frame for plasterboards to be attached to.

All of this works to reduce the sound vibrations able to transfer through your wall or ceiling and into your space.

The product calculator provides an estimated quantity based on the information provided by the user. iKoustic is not responsible for inaccuracies due to incorrect input of measurements, room dimensions, or other user-provided data. We recommend double-checking all measurements and consulting our team for any further guidance to ensure the appropriate amount of product is purchased for your specific project needs.

Wall Stud Center

The wall stud center is the distance between stud uprights. The typical stud upright is 600mm. If you are working directly on a brick wall we recommend using a 600mm spacing here also.

Wall Channel Center

The wall channel center is the distance between the horizontal MuteClip Channels. The typical channel center is 600mm. If you are working directly on a brick wall we recommend using a 600mm spacing here also.

Ceiling Joist Center

The ceiling joist center is the distance between ceiling joists measured from the center. The typical ceiling joist is 400mm. If you are working directly on a concrete ceiling we recommend using a 400mm spacing here also.

Ceiling Channel Center

The ceiling channel center is the distance between the MuteClip Channels. The typical channel center is 400mm. If you are working directly on a concrete ceiling we recommend using a 400mm spacing here also.

  • If you have multiple adjacent surfaces or partitions to soundproof input them individually. Not as a total m2 input as this will affect the results.
  • If you have windows, fireplaces or other fixed structures we recommend booking a call with us before purchasing.

Ceiling ‘Width’

For the calculator the width of a ceiling is the measurement that runs perpendicular with your existing ceiling joists.

Ceiling ‘Height’

For the purposes of this calculator height refers to the measurement that runs parallel with your existing ceiling joists.

Dual Denisty sound reduction

Dual Density Silicone

Silicone acts as a buffer between the screw fixing and the Clip and Channel. We incorporate two different density’s into our design that perform better at different frequencies. Giving you the best of both worlds!

Effective against high and low frequencies

MuteClip® systems perform well against high frequencies and the more challenging low bass frequencies.

MuteClip Ceiling soundproofing

Use as part of a soundproofing system

The MuteClip® range is designed to be used as a part of multiple systems For soundproofing walls and ceilings. Click here to see which system is right for you.

The MuteClip® LP system can lower the ceiling by as little as 5mm, the channel wants to be just proud of the bottom of the joist so the plasterboard layers can be attached to the channels without touching the joist which helps reduces the transfer of vibrations without losing the ceiling height.

The LP in MuteClip® LP stands for ‘low profile and is used where ceiling height is a premium like soundproofing basement flat ceilings.

MuteClip® LP is our low profile (LP) option that allows each clip to be installed on a ceiling to the side of the joist so that the MuteClip® Channel will run on the inside and parallel to the joist, and this makes it a perfect option for sound proofing rooms with limited ceiling height. It is applicable for home sound proofing where impact and airborne noise from noisy neighbours above is intrusive, as well as soundproofing recording studios, cinema rooms and other environments that generate excessive noise.

You cannot install MuteClip® LP on to walls, nor any stud wall framework as the MuteClip® Channel would need to be vertically installed which would lead to a slight drift towards to floor increasing the level of contact and reducing the effectiveness of the sound proofing – it must only be used as a ceiling soundproofing option. If you are looking for our wall soundproofing MuteClip®, click here.

16kg per MuteClip® LP is the maximum load you can apply to each clip, and our team can help to advise you on the weights. We aim to be no more than 75% capacity of the clip as hitting the maximum reduces the suspension of the MuteClip® LP, and with any other noise insulation clip too, reducing its soundproofing effectiveness.

This all depends on which system the MuteClip® LP is incorporated into and what is currently in place, for example, a concrete ceiling will offer reliable support for soundproofing against airborne noise but will present issues with impact noise, whereas a joist ceiling will perform differently and would require Acoustic Mineral Wool between joists.

Other notable areas that can also affect acoustic performance is any adjacent cavities or stud framing lacking sound insulation, the noise will always move to the next weakest area and can travel into these areas by way of flanking transmission.

We offer estimations of acoustic performance in our acoustic results, but it is important to note that every property will behave differently.

MuteClip® LP requires more fixing points than the standard MuteClip® because of the way it is designed and how it suspends its weight on the bracket. The levelling process requires a little more experience in DIY and dry lining, and previous use with drills and a little knowledge of installing materials on to ceilings (so that no servicing or plumbing is fixed in to). When it comes to the Acoustic Plasterboard stage in systems, again, some experience in dry-lining will go a long way to ensure significant gaps and incorrect cutting are minimised as these can affect the result of the sound proofing. Two or more people are required due to the high mass of materials.
