AcousticWafer® Floor Soundproofing Underlay

AcousticWafer® Floor is a sustainable, UK-made soundproofing solution with great thermal insulation and lightweight design, developed through collaboration with eco-conscious companies and academic institutions. Testing carried out in acoustics labs shows AcousticWafer® floor is capable of reducing 18dB. This gives it a very impressive noise reduction in comparison to rubber and foam products whilst giving superior eco-credentials.

100% recycled materials

AcousticWafer® Floor underlay is manufactured with waste paper products and used nappies (don’t worry, they’ve been cleaned!). The acoustic wafer is 100% recyclable when you’re done.

eco friendly Thermal insulation

Great thermal insulation

AcousticWafer® Floor has a thermal conductivity of 0.0673W/mK. This is two times as effective as plywood or rubber acoustic underlays.

Lightweight acoustic underlay

Lightweight

A single board of AcousticWafer® weighs just 3.3kg. This is 8.7kg lighter than comparable rubber products and 7kg lighter than similar wooden products. This leads to a lower carbon footprint when shipping AcousticWafer®.

UK sustainable products

Made in Britain

We’re proud to work with British manufactures Sundeala and NappiCycle to produce a recycled paperboard tuned to iKoustics unique specifications.

The specific process is a closely guarded secret! However, we can tell you that recycled paper fibres are bound using bio-engineering technology, heat and pressure resulting in a dense, firm board. Unlike many fiberboards there are no glues, resins, VOCs or formaldehyde used in the manufacture of AcousticWafer.

Our partners at Sundeala supported us in the development of a specific acoustic board with a view to replacing certain types of acoustic underlays with a more sustainable option.

For projects that require soundproofing with a sustainable focus AcousticWafer offers:

  • 18dB reduction in lab testing
  • Light weight compared to competitors
  • Thermal insulation properties
  • Made in the UK
  • East to cut and install
  • No glues, VOC’s or formaldehyde
  • Leveling properties
  • 100% recycled, 100% recyclable
  • Slimline at 6mm
  • Comparable performance with market leaders

Yes, we recommend using a flanking band with AcousticWafer to reduce the risk of flanking transmission.

MuteMat 2 is not specifically rated to prevent damp. However the mat itself is damp, rot and fungus resistant.

AcousticWafer F has been tested on a concrete floor at a UKAS accredited acoustic laboratory. Achieving a 18dB impact reduction means that AcousticWafer F outperforms other comparable acoustic underlays, most notably rubber underlays.

Using AcousticWafer F as part of a system will give you the best results. We offer a number of systems to suit a range of different needs – check them out here.

The AcousticWafer F can be used as both an underlay and an overlay board. As a product it is ideal as an underlay on concrete due to both its noise reduction but also the low thermal conductivity. On timber joists it can be utilised as an underlay over structural plywood.

AcousticWafer F can be used as an overlay over MuteMat 2 or 3, allowing for vinyl, LVT, and engineered wood to be installed as a flor covering and offering a very high performing system.

AcousticWafer F is installed by loose laying the product over a level floor and taping the edges with cloth tape. The floor covering to be installed over the underlay needs to be adhered to the AcousticWafer.

AcousticWafer F costs less than many of the acoustic underlays on the market.
