MuteMat® OSF 750-10 – Soundproofing Underlay

Our Soundproofing underlay MuteMat® OSF 750-10 offers high performance against impact noise like footsteps and washing machines with very low compression. This means that most flooring types can be laid straight on top of it with no need for overboard with plywood to reduce flex.

If impact noise is all you wish to reduce this is a great cost-effective acoustic underlay. If you need airborne protection and our best-performing impact protection take a look at MuteMat® 2 or MuteMat® 3.

Roll of soundproofing underlay
What flooring can you lay ontop of soundproof underlay

For use with most flooring

MuteMat® OSF soundproof underlay can be used with most flooring types. Carpet, wood flooring, engineered wood flooring, LVT and laminate can all be laid directly on top. Even tiles with an appropriate thickness don’t require overboarding.

Low compression

Does not Deform

MuteMat® OSF maintains efficiency long term even under heavy loads. This means you can lay delicate flooring types like tiles and LVT straight on top without worrying about flexing.

Uniform thickness soundproofing underlay

Consistent Thickness

MuteMat® OSF 10 has a guaranteed thickness and density. 14% Defection under 2000kg/m2.

Recycled Rubber

High recycled content

Each roll of MuteMat® OSF contains 12 recycled tires. You can feel good about your purchase knowing that you’re keeping tires out of landfills and giving them a second life.

MuteMat® OSF 750-05 can be used on timber sub-floors and will offer a moderate level of impact and airborne noise reduction. However, OSF 750-10 is primarily designed for use on concrete floors.

For best results on a timber floor, more compressible products like the MuteMat® 2 or MuteMat® 3 is recommended. Take a look at our MuteMat® 2 or MuteMat® 3 for floor soundproofing in timber structures.

When a residential or commercial property of both existing or new build is subject to Part E Building Regulations or Scottish Building Regulations – the floor soundproofing materials will often require bonding. Confirm this with Building Control and your acoustic testing engineer. For most applications, you can use Styccobond F3 to adhere the underlay.

When laminate, engineered wood or tiling is being installed as a final floor finish, it is often difficult to find a floor sound proofing option that does not involve using additional over boarding such as ply of MDF to support it, this can increase final costs and require further work. MuteMat® OSF 750-10 can receive all these flooring options directly on top, you will need to use a Perimeter Edging Strip around the perimeter of each room to butt all floor layers against, negating this can lead to impact noise transferring into adjacent walls causing Flanking Transmission.

Luxury Vinyl Tiling is becoming increasingly popular due to its ease of maintenance (unlike wooden floor finishes and carpets) and is found to require a suitable soundproofing option with minimal impact to increase floor heights. MuteMat® OSF 750-05 can receive a wide range of these luxury vinyl tiling on top with only the need of adhesive to keep it bonded to the flooring, without any bonding this could lead to partial folding and tearing of the vinyl tiling.

Areas with high volumes of moisture and vapour require sound proofing materials that cannot be compromised in any way by such elements. Mute Mat™ OSF 750-010 is a great option as it is not affected by water, mould or fungi and still allows almost any floor finish to be applied on top, it is also ideal for large residential and commercial projects, as well as being high performing to satisfy Part E Building Regulations in concrete structures.

MuteMat® OSF 750-10 is best cut with a fresh Stanley blade and a straight edge or metal ruler, always cut away from your body and behind the straight edge.

MuteMat® OSF 750-10 requires a Perimeter Edging Band around the perimeter of the room to allow floor layers to adjoin to, helping to reduce the effect of Flanking, which can often be the cause of failures regarding Part E Building Regulations. You will also want to use a Blue Cloth Tape to tape the joins together.

Bonding to Substrate

  • F-Ball Styccobond F3 can be used to adhere MuteMat® OSF 750-10 to an absorbent substrate.
    • If primer is required, the recommended primer for most substrates is F-Ball P131.
  • If anhydrite screed has been laid, the laitance must be cleared before applying any primers or adhesives.
    • The recommended primer for anhydrite screed is F-Ball P121.
  • Smoothing compounds and latex screeds are usually designed to accept an adhesive applied directly.

Wooden flooring finish

  • F-Ball Styccobond B95 can be used to bond timber floor finishes to MuteMat® OSF 750-10.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

  • F-Ball Styccobond F46 can be used to bond vinyl floor finishes to MuteMat® OSF 750-10.

Ceramic / Porcelain Tiles

  • MuteMat® OSF 750-10 to concrete/screed substrate, prime the substrate first with roller coat of ARDEX P82, allow to cure, then bond MuteMat® OSF 750-10 using either ARDEX S 28 or ARDEX X 7001 Mictrotec.
    • If bonding MuteMat® OSF 750-10 to a timber substrate, Ardex AF200 should be used.
  • When you come to lay the tiles, you should prime MuteMat® OSF 750-10 with ARDEX P82, then bed the tile into either ARDEX S28 or ARDEX X 7001 Microtec.
  • Flexi grout should be considered.
