NOISE REDUCTION

Hear the difference.

Play the video to hear the airborne sound difference before and after installing this system. For best results try to match the volume of the unreduced audio to the volume of the noise you’re able to hear.

The noise in the video has been digitally reduced to give you an idea of the sorts of results you could expect. Unfortunately, this is not a perfect science and your personal results could vary due to myriad reasons. However, we have found our customers prefer to hear a decibel reduction rather than read it!

We stand for quality, and we are proud of it.

Our MuteBarrier Plus system is designed for achieving good reductions in airborne sound through a wooden floor while maintaining minimal additional height to the floor build-up.

Airborne sound can come from people talking, televisions, music and much more.

  • Wooden Floor Soundproofing
  • Good reduction in Airborne Sound
  • Additional floor build up only 9mm
  • Easy to install
  • Can be loose laid
  • Can accept a variety of floor finishes

Soundproofing Floor Joists

Soundproofing floor joists is a simple and effective way to reduce impact sound. In the MuteBarrier system, we achieve this with the Isolation Strip P8. The P8 isolation strip is designed specifically for soundproofing floor joists, they have a self-adhesive backing to make for easy installation and a pimpled design so they have a lower contact area and can act like suspension absorbing the impact before it travels through the joists as noise vibrations.

How to install floor soundproofing

Fully installed the system would consist of installing around 100mm of 60kg/mยณ acoustic wool between the floor joists, this will help to reduce cavity resonance and absorb some of the sound passing through. Tecsound S100 would then be laid on top of the subfloor providing excellent vibration-dampening characteristics and additional mass, ideal for airborne sound reduction.

On top of this, the MuteBarrier 10kg/mยฒ is applied as the top layer, this will add mass and act as a hard-wearing final layer. The Perimeter Flanking Band and Acoustic Sealant should be used to separate and seal any hard surfaces from the walls. Any gaps, cracks or holes should also be sealed up to reduce flanking transmission.

This system is ideally installed with acoustic mineral wool within the joist cavity to achieve up to the maximum performance possible. The system can also be installed just as an overlay where it is not possible to lift some of the existing subfloor but performance will be reduced.

The floor joist centre refers to the centre point between each joist.

  • If you have multiple adjacent surfaces or partitions to soundproof input them individually. Not as a total m2 input as this will affect the results.
  • If you have windows, fireplaces or other fixed structures we recommend booking a call with us before purchasing.

Yes, the MuteBarrier premium system has been designed to reduce airborne and impact noise. You may want to consider and test for flanking noise, this is when adjacent walls are allowing sound to travel through not just the floor if this is a problem in your home this will need to be treated as well to solve your noise issue.

Expected acoustic issues in offices are very much what you could expect at home, although in some we find large printers, call centre rooms and loud meeting rooms that can often intrude or disrupt work performance, there is also the requirement to retain privacy in certain environments where people can be heard from above with weak ceiling partitions. We have installed this system across a wide range of commercial offices with resounding success.

Yes and no, without lifting the floor you can definitely add treatments that will help reduce neighbour noise. However, sound insulation in cavities is incredibly important for it helps to reduce the sound from reflecting around in the closed-off space – this creates a boom-like resonance and will differ from the size of each cavity.

Leaving floor cavities untreated lends an even larger gap for Flanking Transmission to follow through, moving into stud frame walls and boxed-off areas throughout the floor. So with this, acoustic results can vary greatly from very little performance to still acceptable but there is no way in telling these prior.

Impact noise is still affected by leaving an open cavity but if the floor cannot be lifted you will see often still see a greater lift in the reduction of impact noise.
